I saw this and it just seemed like the perfect title. I remember reading a book titled The Last Catholic in America, a book that detailed the year by year struggles of a fictional student in a Catholic grade school. And knowing what it was like to attend a similar system, I loved the book and its humorous look at school life. This book, Close Encounters of the Third Grade Kind, is probably in a very similar vein.

There are some, like myself, who think the real education begins after that, since it is driven by personal desire. There are a few books in this realm of what some call “self-help” and this is one of the standards. You couple this with Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People” and you get a pretty decent 1-2 punch in the realm of personal development.
